>> oh yeah. >> tree pollen. all the pretty trees blooming out there are impacting you. that is what you will notice today. wednesday along the coast are kind of high. the swell is coming up a little bit. you can see we're looking for a day that will be really, really nice. high pressure sending everything to the north. sal castaneda how are the roadways? we are following breaking news out of san jose where chp is looking for the driver of a deadly hit and run. it happened shortly after 3:00 at interstate 280. the chp says the driver spotted the body and called 911. it's not known how the woman ended up on the freeway. the chp has been investigating people all morning. anyone with information on this accident is asked to call the chp. janine de la vega will have more in a live report coming up at 6:30. we haves a another problem

on the other end of the bay. we have been talking about a boulder that rolled on to an suv. >> reporter: we are just south of the waldo tunnel and just north of the golden gate bridge. let's take a look hoe. you can see there is a broken fence line here. it's believe the at least a large boulder or rocks. and it also effected three other cars as well. literally about a minute and a ago -- very unstable along the 101 but traffic still moving here smoothly. at least on the five and six lanes. here with more on the traffic conditions and what happened this morning mary. what do you know this morning? >> reporter: we are about an hour into this issue with the rocks that came down from this cliff up here. we've had rock slides all along here over the years.

this one is pretty significant in which it shut down two lanes. they're trying to get the third lane open. we are waiting for cal ran. our guys try to move the rocks with the tow trucks but we were not able to succeed in that. cal tran needs to come in aeroand sweep these lanes. >> reporter: when we talk about rocks how big? >> we are talking three or four feet. i lived in the rockies so it's not a boulder but -- to us. but it's a significant size rock. you can see the debris and we did hear a little bit of sliding a few minutes ago. they will also be looking at what we need to make sure the hillside is okay. >> reporter: any injuries that you know of? >> not that i'm aware of. >> reporter: again the two fast lanes are blocked. still debris on the roadways. they are trying to figure out how to shore up the hillside

here. we'll bring you more as the morning continues. brian flores ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:04. developing news from northern virginia. three people are dead. there was a shooting on the quantico marine base. authorities there say a male marine suspected of shooting two fellow marines a man and woman and killing himself. coming up at 6:15 what the authorities said about that shooting in an early morning news conference. a 15-year-old girl and mother say they were attacked by a large man on a crowded muni bus. it happened last weekend at the intersection of mission street and onondaga avenue. claudine wong is at that intersection now and talking to muni riders. >> reporter: it has been a very busy line here. this is the 14th and mission bus that is pulling up behind me at the intersection. this is apparently where the attacker got on the bus last

weekend. and before it was all over he ended up pushing and strangling and robbing a woman for her teenage daughter. the search for her is still under way -- the search is still under way. the mother and daughter were standing at the back of this very crowded bus near the doors when a very large man got on the bus and tried to push his way on. trying to make room. police tell the examiner he kept pushing and pushing until the teen reacted by slapping him and saying there is no more room. that is when he punched her and started strangling her. the mother tried to step in and stop it all. while this was going on the second man stole the mother's purse. the search continues for those two men. we talked to one muni rider who says she is very concerned about her safety and takes precautions from where she carries and sits. >> i usually sit to the far end of the bus. >> on purpose? >> on purpose. >> reporter: because you don't want any problem?

>> i don't want any problems. >> reporter: we do have one description of a man. a large man weighing 300 pounds. he is bald in his 30s. about 6'2" tall. he was wearing a black sweatshirt and red and black headphones. the victims apparently did not get a good look at the second suspect. we do know they are looking at surveillance video. trying to get a better idea of who these men are. vallejo police are looking for a map who assault -- a man who assaulted a young woman in hans park. he grabbed the woman at about 3:30 sunday afternoon. he tried to choke her and move her to a creek bed but she got away. the suspect drove off. the car is described as an older model silver or gray

accra. with gray primer. our time is 6:07. a woman on the peninsula desperately trying to find her dog. it was stolen from her when she was asleep on bart. the dog is archy. a small dog but played a big role in her life. tara moriarty is at the owners home now. you're in san bruno. >> reporter: that is right. archy is a very special dog that is because he is a specially trained service dog. joining me right now is cover run to tell us a little bit more about exactly what happened. obviously this has been a very difficult time for you. >> yes. it's devastating. i went on bart at night. halfway through my trip i i fel asleep. and when i woke up he was gone. someone took him. >> reporter: and you had a carrier next to you. he was in that carrier. it looks like a purse. maybe someone thought he was stealing a purse.

>> absolutely. he could have been just sleeping down in there. and they might have not even realized. >> reporter: again this happened late wednesday night. she fell asleep when she woke up he was gone. she was heading home from a spca fundraising event. she has been putting up missing fliers at bart stations all the way from millbrae up to san francisco. and you actually have pulled together a reward. you put $1,000 up for a reward and your friends and family also pitched in? >> yeah. i've gotten a couple $1,000 in donations on top of that. i feel really supported right now. and i just pray for his return. >> reporter: and the reason you have an anxiety disorder is from when you were younger. you were involved in something very traumatic. >> i was involved in a plane

welcome back. time now 6:15. a woman in texas claims she accidentally set her house on fire trying to get away from a snake. now she saw the snake pam when she was out cleaning her yard. she poured gasoline on it. set the snake on fire. that is when the real trouble started. >> the snake went into brush pile and the brush pile caught the home on fire. >> the house was completely destroyed. her neighbors house also damaged. we don't know yet if the woman will face charges. three marines are dead after an apparent murder- suicide. as kyla campbell reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom the base commander says the gunman killed a pan and woman. >> reporter: the shooters first

victim was found around 7:30 pacific last night. authorities then found the shooter and a woman he killed in the same building. right now authorities are not releasing a possible motive or the names of those killed. the base commander tells us all three worked at the officer cadet school. all other marines on base and their family members have been accounted for. he says they have chaplains providing counseling for people who work and live at quantico. >> we're taking care of the well being of the marines and the families aboard quantico who have been effected by this loss and tragedy. >> reporter: he talk the about what a rough week it has been for marines. on monday seven marines were killed in an explosion in nevada. we'll have more on this latest tragedy when see you. 6:17. a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running is heading to president obama's

desk for his signature. the house of representatives passed it yesterday. it keeps the government funded for the next six months. it leaves if place $85 billion in sequestration budget cuts for the pentagon and for domestic programs. as a result of that, hundreds of thousands of government workers you can expect temporary furloughs over the next six months. also later today we will find out if any bay area air traffic control towers will be closing. five air traffic control towers here in the bay area are on a possible closure list. they include concord, livermore, san carlos, santa rosa and napa. the faa has decided to shut down as many as 238 air traffic control tours all across the country because of the sequestration budget cuts. the airports would still operate but without air traffic controllers. instead pilots would go back to their old system of talking to

each other over the radios. san mateo police will patrol aragon high school. on wednesday a message was posted on an anonymous facebook page. police say it was a rambling note and listed yesterday as a date for action. police say they will be there today and tomorrow as a precaution. they are also at the after school baseball games. a teacher will be arraigned in court. police say fellow teachers caught 59-year-old debra putting sleeping pills into toddlers sipy cuts. she supervised ten children between the ages of 1-2. she has been fired from her job. new concerns about how the america's cup is financing the yacht races. organizers are planning several big concerts at an amphitheatre planned for pier 29. they say they have six acts

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. time now 6:24. an investigation has cleared two vallejo police officers of a deadly shooting last may. the times hearld reports that the solano county district attorneys office says the shooting was justified. the investigation found the officers opened fire on a heavily intoxicated man

flashing a fake gun. the shooting was the first of six deadly vallejo police shooting last year. the national park service choosing between five proposals. now with a packed house last night a lot of people were there checking out each of the five plans. they all include eliminating commercial bike and horse and raft. the people will still be able to bring their own recreation equipment though. the idea is to cut services comes after a judge ordered the park service to find a way to protect an 81-mile stretch of the merced river. if you are planning to head to oakland this sunday, be prepared for big crowds and street closures. nearly 10 thursday runners are expected to flood the streets for the annual oakland marathon. that race begins at 6:00 in the morning. it's followed by a festival which ends at 3:30 in the

two lanes are still closed near mclaughlin. two lanes though are still open. basically the chp is overseeing this accident scene. a body has been collected by the coroner. because there is gruesome debris on the freeway they are determining this is a bio hazard. i spoke with a cal trans person and they are telling me they have to call out another crew here. they have closed the 7th street onramp because they need to do a cleanup and that could take two to three hours. let's go to video taken earlier this morning. this accident happened just before 3:15. someone driving in the 280 southbound lanes stopped when they saw a body crumpled lying in the freeway. the chp says this appears to have been a hit and run. they leave the victim was a -- they believe the victim was a woman. the chp says none of the drivers that stopped to help

had damage on their vehicles. >> several vehicles stopped to protect the bystander from getting run over again. it looks like he was run over by one vehicle. we have no suspect vehicle information. anyone who was in the area that saw or heard anything give us a call. >> reporter: some of the drivers who were helping had to be comforted by chp officers because they were traumatized by the accident. the chp again says they have no leads. very hit information and they need help. they have called san jose police department to help them to ask them to look for any vehicles that may have damage that may have hit this person but they would also like like the public to come forward. call 1-800-tell chp. two of the lanes are open. two of the lanes the number one and the number two lane are still closed. you can see the cal tran vehicle behind me. they say it could take two to

three hours before they open up all lanes to traffic. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:33. we also have developing news in marin county. southbound lanes of highway 101 are closed because a boulder about four feet wide rolled down on to the road. it happened as the morning commute is just getting started. ktvu brian flores is right there on highway 101. so what is the latest? what is happening now? >> good morning opinion i guess i will start off with the good news we are south of the waldo tunnel. just north of the golden gate bridge. as soon as you pass the scene where the large rocks fell from the hillside on to the 101 traffic is moving nicely. there might be a little bit of a backup. but from what we know so far at 4:48 this morning the chp not goth reports of a large boulder that had fallen on to the freeway. it turns out it might have been several large rocks that had fallen on to the freeway. at least one car from what we

know was a mercedes suv had significant damage to the front. and five minutes ago it was cleared from the 101. for more on an update mary with the spokesperson for the golden gate bridge. what is the latest? >> we have three lanes open for the morning commute. we have one lane still being held back because it has the debris in it. they are waiting for cal tran. they have equipment that is stationed nearby. they are bringing the equipment to clear the roadway. we are seeing flat tires from the sharp edges of the rocks. we're also waiting for a determination on that whether or not they will open that lane based on the geology of the rock. >> reporter: while we were doing our live shot, smaller rocks started falling down the hillside. >> we were ready to run there for a second. >> what will be going on in terms of shoring up the hillside if there is any work? >> we saw small slides over the year. larger slides back in '82 and

the only way to achieve lasting peace. time now 6:36. back here at home an audit of two oakland city council members now in the hands of district members. courtney ruby listed more than a dozen alleged violations. among other things the audit accuses them of using their power to influence the bidding process for the $2 million cleanup at the former oakland army base. both reid and brooks deny any wrong doing. ktvu news has also learned that councilman reid is also the target of a second investigation. this is the story you will see only on 2. we have obtained a report from a private investigator working for a business that was concerned about alleged corruption. that report includes an interview with a man who claimed his business partner paid money to get special

treatment from city hall and specifically according to the report councilman reid. councilman reid tells us he's hiring an attorney and he is confident a full investigation will clear his name in this second case. we are learning more about the man who shot and killed a chp officer last year. 36-year-old christopher lacy shot officer youngstrom during a traffic stop. we now know he was diagnosissed with a bipolar disorder in 1997. police say he was a loner who expressed antigovernment views. the fight over reward money in the man hunt case surrounding christopher dorner could heat up. $1.2million is up for grabs but there are several people who say they're the ones who helped police find him. police say dorner killed two police officers and two civilians before getting in a gun battle with police in big bear that ultimately led to his

death. agencies hope to hand the money out by mid april. they plan to listen to tapes and read reports before making a final decision on who gets that money. later this morning south bay police officers will begin a 24 hour global tweet-a-thon. now it's designed to give you a behind the scenes look at the job of a police officer. followers can expected to get about 300 to 400 tweets per police department. if you want to follow this event use hash tag po -- use oltut. >> there will be a lot of tweets. >> yeah. you get good information. good morning, everybody. let's go out and take a look at the things we have. we've been looking at a lot of traffic that is getting busier throughout the morning. and here on 80 you will see more people on the road now.

investigation. democrats say the gun control legislation that the senate debates next month will include expanded federal background checks. harry reid says the measure will also include tougher laws and stiffer sentences for gun trafficking. they are against the expanded background checks. leading it could lead to a federal registry of gun owners. it will not include dianne feinstein's assault weapons ban but it will be offered as an amendment. a gun buy back event planned tomorrow in san jose by the santa coty clara sheriffs department. gun owners who turn in weapons will get up to $200 cash depending on the gun that is turned in. no questions asked. the event is being held at the reid hill airport between 8:00 a.m. and noon. after seven long years and spending more than $400 million a project designed to help protect san mateo county coastal drivers is almost open.

an escaped parolee wanted on felony weapons charges still on the loose after escaping from police in san jose. the police tracked him down on june song way yesterday afternoon. police say he ran away. threw away a loaded gun and jumped over fences to escape. police set up a perimeter. they searched yard to yard for him. but haven't found him yet. tickets going fast for tomorrow's ncaa tournament game at the hp pavilion. cal will play syracuse after the bears upset unlv. 64-61. san jose has hosted the tournament three times in seven years and each time an estimated $20 million was pumped into the local economy. by the way, the game between cal and syracuse scheduled for 6:40 saturday night. the sea otter exhibit at the aquarium opens tomorrow. they will be able to see
